Officials said to be still pursuing Major League Soccer in St. Louis

St. Louis hasn’t abandoned hope of scoring a Major League Soccer franchise.

Missouri Department of Economic Development representatives have met with MLS officials as recently as this week, an official from the governor’s office told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and the governor’s office is interested in working on a plan for a soccer stadium in St. Louis.

A DED spokeswoman said the department could not comment on active negotiations.

St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson also confirmed that there’s still local interest in bringing a team to town.

That follows comments by MLS Commissioner Don Garber this month that St. Louis remains a candidate to get an expansion team, despite voters rejecting plans for a publicly financed stadium in 2017.
