Dalian Wanda Group celebrated the completion of its $2.6 billion acquisition of AMC Entertainment today by announcing a donation of supplies, screenings and tickets to area high school students valued at $1.3 million.
The donation was announced at a press conference this morning held by Wang Jianlin, chairman and president of the Chinese firm, and Gerry Lopez, chief executive of AMC. The Kansas City company is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Wanda Group and the new venture is now the world’s largest cinema exhibition firm.
The donation to a dozen high schools in Kansas City, Mo. and Kansas City, Kan. include arts and educational supplies for the classrooms as well as movie screenings that can be used to supplement classroom education, according to a prepared statement in advance of the event.
