Appeals court rejects arbitration in lawsuit against Rams, Kroenke

A Missouri appeals court on Tuesday rejected a request by the Rams and owner Stan Kroenke to avoid court in a case stemming from the football team’s decision to leave St. Louis.

Judge Philip Hess ruled that the case should not be settled through arbitration, as the team, Kroenke and the National Football League have requested.

The decision marks another setback for the Rams and the NFL owners surrounding a 2017 lawsuit filed by St. Louis, St. Louis County and the St. Louis Regional Convention and Sports Complex Authority.

The city, county and sports authority said the Rams’ 2016 departure from St. Louis resulted in a breach of contract and unjust enrichment by the team, the NFL and its owners.

With Tuesday’s decision, the case is slated to return to a lower court for additional proceedings.
