Ford will temporarily stop production of the Transit van, idling about 2,000 workers at its Kansas City Assembly Plant in Claycomo later this month, the Kansas City Business Journal reports.
The temporary layoff comes as Ford tries to ensure its supply doesn’t significantly outpace demand amid a slump in commercial orders.
Transit sales were down 14.9 percent in September, although they’re up 13.5 percent for the year.
Workers will be idled from Oct. 22 to Nov. 4. The layoff doesn’t affect production of the F-150 pickup truck, which is also produced at the Claycomo plant.
