Former Sprint executive envisions ‘innovation district’ near downtown KC

A former Sprint executive and managing executive of the Sprint Accelerator is teasing plans for an innovation district along the 18th Street corridor near Kansas City’s Jazz District and Crossroads Arts District.

Kevin McGinnis, who is now CEO of the Keystone Community Corporation, envisions an area that could ultimately feature coworking and event spaces, as well as housing dining, and entertainment options.

McGinnis has not disclosed the location or other details of the district, dubbed the Keystone District, but those are expected soon.

He said he has consulted with Gerald Smith, founder of Kansas City coworking space operator Plexpod, on his project, and that the district will be modeled after innovation hubs in cities like St. Louis and Detroit.
