The United Steelworkers Union has reached a tentative agreement with U.S. Steel that covers 16,000 workers across the country, the group announced Monday.
That includes about 1,200 employees at the U.S. Steel plant in Granite City, Illinois.
The union has been negotiating with the Pittsburgh-based steel manufacturer over demands including higher wages. Previous collective bargaining agreements expired Sept. 1, but union members have continued to work through an extension.
Union members voted last month to strike if negotiations slowed.
The steelmaker said details of the agreement would be made available after it’s ratified by union members.
