Ameren building new solar field near St. Louis airport

Ameren Missouri is constructing a solar facility near St. Louis Lambert International Airport that will allow small businesses and residential customers to use renewable energy without having to install their own solar panels.

The St. Louis-based utility will construct a one-megawatt facility that could be operational as soon as next summer, according to a Wednesday announcement.

Customers can choose to have half their energy supplied by the solar facility, Ameren said.

The facility will make solar-generated energy accessible to customers who rent their residence, live in areas without consistent sunlight or otherwise lack the means to use solar, according to the company.
