Missouri ranks No. 34 as the most taxed state in the U.S., according to a study by the Tax Foundation released Tuesday. Missouri residents pay an average of 9.0 percent of income in state and local taxes.
The average tax burden on Missouri residents was 8.9 percent in 2000 and was 9.1 percent in 2009.
New York residents pay the highest average rate – 12.8 percent – while Alaskans pay the lowest at 7.0 percent. Read more on St. Louis Business Journal.
