Waddell & Reed Awarded Special Dividends

Waddell & Reed Financial Inc. is the latest Kansas City-area public company to award a special cash dividend.

The Overland Park-based mutual fund provider (NYSE: WDR) announced Thursday that it will award a special dividend of $1 a share to shareholders of record as of Nov. 26. It will be payable on Dec. 6, allowing shareholders to avoid any potential increase in the tax rate on dividend income, which currently is at 15 percent. The tax rate is part of the Bush-era tax cuts that are set to expire at the end of the year unless legislators intervene.
