The Internal Revenue Service has a message for taxpayers eager to learn the status of their tax refund: Please don’t check the IRS website every five minutes – once a day is enough.

The IRS has been overwhelmed by taxpayers looking for information on their tax refund. In their constant seeking of an update, the taxpayers are overwhelming the IRS website, IRS2go smartphone app, and the IRS toll-free phone number. The IRS has suggested that the best times to check the status of a refund are afternoons and weekends. The IRS is currently receiving more than 1 million returns per day, and that volume is expected to increase over the next few days.
