Legislators Consider One-Cent Tax Increase

The Missouri House Transportation Committee reviewed a proposed 1 percent increase in sales tax to be dedicated for transportation on Tuesday.  The Senate’s Transportation Committee is expected to review a similar proposal on Wednesday.

A penny increase is expected “to make a difference” for transportation, according to Kevin Keith, director of the Missouri Transportation Department.  The small increase would generate almost $8 billion over the next ten years, and could potentially support nearly 270,000 jobs during that same ten-year time period.
