Liquor, police cameras and auto parts were among the products that helped make Kansas City-area companies Wall Street darlings in 2014, when more than half of the region’s publicly traded firms kept ahead of the market’s torrid pace.
Atchison, Kan.-based MGP Ingredients Inc. was the area’s best-performing company. MGP, which operates two distilleries, had more than tripled in value through Monday. Lenexa, Kan-based camera maker Digital Ally and Springfield-based auto parts store O’Reilly Automotive were also big winners in 2014.
In a year in which the stock market soared, more than half of the region’s 46 publicly traded companies had outperformed the stock market averages topped by the Nasdaq’s 15.09 percent gain through Monday.
