Hostess Unions Are At Odds As Liquidation Threat Deadline Nears

As the clock ticks toward Hostess Brands Inc.’s threatened liquidation deadline, the company’s largest union is urging a striking union to vote about whether “the workers want to continue their strike of the company and force it into liquidation.”

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters union, which narrowly approved labor changes that the Bakery, Confectionary, Tobacco and Grain Millers International Union is protesting, urged the bakers’ union to hold a secret ballot. Hostess is threatening to ask the bankruptcy court for total liquidation if the strike doesn’t end by 4 p.m.

Of Hostess’ 18,300 employees, the bakers’ union represents 5,300 and the Teamsters represent about 7,000.
