KC County On Pace To Eclipse $1 Billion In 2013 Development

Wyandotte County may see its first $1 billion year for new development announcements since 1986, when plans for the current General Motors Fairfax Assembly Plant were unveiled. Economic development officials for the Kansas county, situated due west of downtown Kansas City, Mo., said $820 million in new capital investments in the county already had been announced this year, including a $600 million expansion at the GM plant and a $128 million expansion by PQ Corp. Officials don’t foresee any other deals of more than $100 million this year, but Sporting Kansas City is working on a $50 million national soccer training campus to Kansas City, Kan., and a $75 million hotel project is in the works.
