American Railcar Bids For Oregon Rail Equipment Maker

St. Charles-based American Railcar Industries, led by billionaire investor Carl Icahn, has made a bid to buy rival Greenbrier Cos. American Railcar’s cash bid of $20 per share was detailed in a regulatory filing Monday. The bid would total about $543 million.

Efforts by American Railcar to buy Lake Oswego, Ore.-based Greenbrier in 2008 never materialized. Greenbrier designs and manufactures railroad freight car equipment.
