Board Approves Interstate Loop Around Springfield

Missouri and Springfield officials want to upgrade the U.S. 65 and James River Freeway corridors to interstate standards to form a loop around the city, which they say would benefit residents while also attracting new business.

The Ozarks Transportation Organization board endorsed the route, which would connect with Interstate 44 south and west of the city. Local officials have suggested it be named Interstate 244. The city now is working with the Missouri Department of Transportation to find out what changes might be required to gain federal approval for the new designation.
