KC Teamsters Leader Expects Vote Against YRC Worldwide Deal

The president of Kansas City’s Teamsters Local 41 said a majority of union members he has spoken with do not support the proposed agreement with YRC Worldwide Inc. and are going to vote against it. Ballots have been mailed out and are due to be counted in early January.

CEO James Welch has said he’s confident the union will ratify the proposal. YRC, based in Overland Park, Kan., has told the union it needs its help to pay down $1.4 billion in debt that comes due in 2014 and 2015. The earliest payment — $69 million — comes due in February.
