Missouri Senate Passes Sales Tax For Transportation, Budget Bill

The Missouri Senate has passed a proposed constitutional amendment that would create a temporary sales tax to fund transportation needs around the state, but not before scaling it back by a quarter percent from the 1 percent tax passed by the House. Voters would need to approve the sales tax, which would expire automatically in 10 years unless renewed by voters.

The Senate also approved a $26.8 billion state budget bill, but several differences with the House’s version of the spending plan remain, including funding for public schools.
