You’ve heard Mitt Romney and Barack Obama talk a lot about the economy and government spending. You’ve also heard both candidates mention past government stimulus projects as talking points.

You might be curious where money from the Economic Stimulus Bill of 2008 and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 ended up, for better or for worse.

David Mitchell, an economics professor at Missouri State University, said many people might wonder what types of government stimulus work to boost an economy.

“I think that the things government does well is the things that the private sector doesn’t do well,” Mitchell said. “The private sector doesn’t do as well with larger interstate infrastructure projects.”

In the Springfield area, you may have noticed several projects that were completed with funds from the stimulus.

According to watchdog site StimulusWatch.org, the Springfield-Branson National Airport used more than $14 million in stimulus money to add to its runways.
