The Week Ahead: Earnings, Oscars, GOP gubernatorial debate

Here’s a look at some of the stories Missouri Business Alert is tracking this week:

Monday

Three of four Republican candidates for governor are expected to gather in Jefferson City for the first GOP debate of 2016, hosted by The Missouri Times. A video stream of the event will be available.

SunEdison, a Maryland Heights-based clean-power developer, is expected to release quarterly results. The report comes amid concerns about the company’s cash position, Bloomberg reports.

Stereotaxis, a St. Louis-based health medical device maker that has dealt with Nasdaq compliance issues in recent weeks, also is scheduled to report quarterly results.

Tuesday

Retailer Macy’s is expected to report results for its fourth quarter. The Cincinnati-based company blamed sluggish holiday sales last month when it announced cutbacks including the closure of 36 stores nationwide and the shuttering of a call center in suburban St. Louis. Fellow retailers Dillard’s (Monday), Kohl’s (Thursday) and JC Penney (Friday) also are scheduled to report earnings.

Stifel Financial, a St. Louis-based financial services company, is set to disclose earnings for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2015 after market close. Stifel continued its recent string of acquisitions with its announcement earlier this month that it plans to purchase London-based investment bank ISM Capital.

Isle of Capri Casinos, the St. Louis-based casino operator, also will report earnings.

Wednesday

EPR Properties, a Kansas City-based real estate investment trust, and Great Plains Energy, the parent company of utility Kansas City Power & Light, plan to release quarterly financial figures.

Thursday

The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City is scheduled to publish its monthly manufacturing survey, a report providing information on manufacturing activity in the Federal Reserve’s Tenth District.

Anheuser-Busch InBev, the Belgian parent company of St. Louis-based brewer Anheuser Busch, is scheduled to report results for the fourth quarter of 2015. The check-in comes as world’s largest brewer continues to navigate the process of purchasing SABMiller, the No. 2 global beer maker.

Friday

The Bureau of Economic Analysis is scheduled to release a second GDP estimate for the fourth quarter of 2015. The estimate is expected to indicate a 0.4 percent increase in GDP, down from the initial increase of 0.7 percent estimated in January, Bloomberg reports.

Sunday

The 88th Academy Awards ceremony will take place in Los Angeles. The Hollywood awards show has come under fire this year for a lack of diversity among its nominees.

Correction: Feb. 21 at 9:30 p.m.

This story was updated to indicate that three of four Republican candidates for governor are expected at Monday night’s debate. An earlier version incorrectly suggested all four candidates were expected to attend.
