The St. Louis Economic Development Partnership on Wednesday moved closer to a $13.5 million expansion that would double the size of the Helix Center, its biotech incubator in Creve Coeur. The plan approved by the partnership’s board is designed to accommodate the growth of Benson Hill Biosystems, a rapidly expanding company that specializes in gene analyzing and sequencing. Read more

West Lake Landfill operator sues Mallinckrodt to help cover cleanup costs

The operator of the West Lake Landfill in Bridgeton is suing Mallinckrodt to help pay for the $205 million cleanup the Environmental Protection Agency has ordered for the suburban St. Louis site. Bridgeton Landfill LLC, a subsidiary of Republic Services, filed a lawsuit Tuesday against Mallinckrodt, a pharmaceutical company with operations in the St. Louis area. Read more

Missouri Supreme Court considering case over workers’ compensation law

The Missouri Supreme Court is weighing whether a workers’ compensation law is unconstitutional or invalid based on its language. In 2014, a new law took prohibiting people with permanent partial disabilities from making new benefits claims through the state’s Second Injury Fund. Instead, the fund was reserved for people with permanent total disabilities. Read more

Money is pouring in from high-profile sources in places like Silicon Valley, Hollywood and Washington to support the candidates in Missouri’s U.S. Senate race. Sen. Claire McCaskill, the Democratic incumbent, had raised more than $27 million for her campaign as of Oct. 1.
