Beyond Meat, a company that makes plant-based meat substitutes, has filed for an initial public offering. Beyond Meat Founder Ethan Brown has worked closely with researchers at the University of Missouri to develop Beyond Meat’s products. The company is based in El Segundo, California, but it maintains two production facilities in Columbia. Read more

Arch Grants awards $1 million to 20 startups

Arch Grants, the nonprofit that gives $50,000 grants to startups committed to operating their business from St. Louis for one year, announced Friday that it has awarded $1 million in new grants to 20 companies. The latest group features 11 companies from the St. Louis area and nine from elsewhere. Read more

Medicaid expansion supporters begin work for 2020

Advocates for expanding Medicaid in Missouri have already started their push to put the issue on the state’s ballot in 2020. Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft announced that paperwork for a ballot measure to expand Medicaid in the state filed Nov. 7, one day after the midterm elections. Read more

T-Mobile CFO says Sprint deal may close by first quarter 2019

T-Mobile’s chief financial officer said his company’s $26 billion acquisition of Sprint could close as early as the first quarter of 2019, although the second quarter is more likely. T-Mobile, the No. 3 U.S. wireless carrier, announced in April that it plans to acquire Overland Park, Kansas-based Sprint, the No. 4 wireless carrier. The deal is awaiting regulatory approval. Read more
