The expansion, which will double the plant’s production of aluminum bottles, comes amid strong demand for Budweiser and Bud Light in the resealable aluminum bottles.

St. Louis-based startups have raised about $222 million in venture capital in 2014, according to the St. Louis Regional Chamber. The current total represents a significant spike over the $19.1 million that had been raised by local startups through the first half of the year.

Postal Service rebuffs senators’ pleas to save processing centers

The head of the U.S. Postal Service said the 2015 closure of 82 postal service processing centers nationwide, including facilities in Springfield and Cape Girardeau, is a necessity. That assertion comes despite an effort by Missouri Sens. Roy Blunt and Claire McCaskill, along with 28 other senators, to delay the shuttering of the facilities.

Perficient acquires Milwaukee IT consultancy for $35.7 million

Town and Country-based IT consultancy Perficient will acquire Milwaukee-based consulting firm Zeon Solutions Inc. for $35.7 million in cash and stock. Perficient is also acquiring a Zeon subsidiary, Grand River Interactive LLC, and an Indian affiliate that are collectively known as Zeon Solutions.

McCaskill joins star-studded chorus for Colbert Report finale

Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill joined a chorus of comedians, musicians, actors and other elected officials — plus a couple of Sesame Street characters — Thursday night in helping close out the final episode Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report.”
