Missouri House Endorses Revised, Business-Backed Workplace Discrimination Law

The Missouri House gave first-round approval to a bill requiring workers who sue to prove discrimination was a “motivating factor” in actions such as wrongful termination or denial of promotions. Current state law requires only that discrimination “contribute” to bad actions in the workplace. Similar legislation has been vetoed by Gov. Jay Nixon in each of the last two years. The new bill needs one more vote before moving to the Senate.
