Nixon: Tax Cuts Would Hurt Credit Rating

Gov. Jay Nixon warned that the state’s Triple-A credit rating could suffer if legislators override his veto of the state’s Broad-Based Tax Relief Act. The Democratic governor distributed a letter to the legislature Monday elaborating on recent reports from credit rating agencies Moody’s, Fitch and Standard & Poor’s. All would reassess the state’s credit rating if his veto of the proposed tax cuts is overturned, Nixon said, calling the proposed tax cuts a “dire threat to our financial health and reputation.”
