Missouri House Speaker Counters Nixon In Tax Cut Veto Dispute

House Speaker Tim Jones, R-Eureka, chided Gov. Jay Nixon for “wasting” taxpayer money by traveling around the state this summer to argue for his veto of legislation to cut state income taxes for individuals and businesses. Jones called the bill a “cautious, careful way” to do what other states are doing that are experiencing job growth and improving their economies. Jones cited record revenue for the state of Oklahoma, with its more extreme tax cut bill, and growth in states including Tennessee, where there is no income tax, and Kansas, which recently cut its taxes.
