U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill is calling for the renewal of the Workforce Investment Act, which pays for organizations to provide free training and provides support to job seekers.
McCaskill, speaking at the Soldiers’ Memorial in St. Louis, said federal reauthorization would particularly help veterans. Cost cutting has put the program in question and has caused money to dry up for organizations that have benefited from it, like the St. Louis Agency on Training and Employment.
“It’s about marrying a workplace with a potential hire,” McCaskill said of such programs.
The Workforce Investment Act was part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
