Missouri businessman Rex Sinquefield donated $50,000 to Catherine Hanaway’s 2016 campaign for governor, while a Sinquefield-funded group, Missouri Club For Growth, gave the former Missouri House speaker $100,000. Hanaway will presumably fight state Auditor Tom Schweich for the 2016 Republican nomination. She recently received donations from prominent business and GOP party figures, including the state Senate president and majority leader.

Schweich’s allies have been trying to build an aura of inevitability around his yet-unofficial bid, bringing major Republican figures like former U.S. Sens. John Danforth and Jim Talent into Schweich’s auditor re-election race this year.

The winner will likely face Attorney General Chris Koster, the only Democratic candidate as of now.
