Brown’s funeral takes place today after quiet weekend in Ferguson

Michael Brown’s father called for calm during today’s funeral services in suburban St. Louis. President Barack Obama is sending three White House aides to the funeral of the young black man, whose fatal shooting by a white police officer sparked days of racial unrest in Ferguson. The aides include the deputy director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, who went to high school with Brown’s mother.

On Sunday, members of the Missouri Legislative Black Caucus used a meeting with Gov. Jay Nixon to vent over the investigation into the Aug. 9 shooting death. Some legislators said they repeated calls for an indictment of Ferguson police Officer Darren Wilson and for Nixon to remove St. Louis County Prosecutor Robert McCulloch from the case.
