Kansas City Contingent heads to Silicon Valley

The Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce is sending more than 110 Kansas City civic, business, and elected leaders to California’s Silicon Valley Sunday, according to a press release by KC Chamber, as part of the Chamber of Commerce’s 12th annual Leadership Exchange.

The agenda for the three-day visit to Silicon Valley includes a visit to Stanford University to discuss tech transfer; tours of Google and a briefing on Google culture; a panel discussion on “What Makes Silicon Valley Work?;” and a dialogue with Heartland startup “expats,” to find out why they left KC for Silicon Valley and what it would take to win them back.

According to the Fortune 500 list released in June, Kansas City has just one company among the 500 largest in the nation this year. “This year’s trip to Silicon Valley gives us an opportunity to study their success in both technology and entrepreneurship.”  Says Chamber Chair-Elect Terry Dunn, CEO of JE Dunn Construction Group.
