Koster vows to follow stricter donation rules after Times allegations

Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster said Wednesday he won’t accept donations from any company his office is investigating or has recently investigated, and he won’t take gifts from lobbyists or lawyers representing those companies.

Koster, a Democrat who plans to run for governor in 2016, has come under scrutiny after a New York Times article alleged he ended an investigation of 5-Hour Energy after accepting thousands of dollars in contributions from a lobbying firm that represents the energy drink company.

Koster said in a statement that the new restrictions are “the strictest conflict-of-interest provisions of any elected attorney general in the United States.”

Missouri House Speaker Tim Jones, R-Eureka, has established a committee to investigate the allegations brought against Koster.
