Republican leaders look to appeal judge’s gay marriage ruling

The Missouri Legislature’s Republican leadership is pushing for the appeal of a Kansas City circuit judge’s ruling that would require Missouri to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states.

Senate President Pro Tem Tom Dempsey, R-St. Charles, and House Speaker Tim Jones, R-Eureka, filed a motion asking to intervene in the Jackson County court case so they can appeal it to the state Supreme Court.

Dempsey and Jones’ move follows an October ruling by Judge Dale Young that declared the state’s same-sex marriage ban unconstitutional.
