A committee created by House Speaker Tim Jones to investigate Attorney General Chris Koster, who allegedly stopped certain investigations after donations were made to his campaign fund, is set to have its first meeting Monday. But some signs suggest the committee may not have much staying power.
Two members of the committee, Vice Chair Rep. Stanley Cox and Rep. Chris Kelly, will both be leaving office in January.
House Speaker-elect John Diehl’s office confirmed that he is under no legal obligation to renew Jones’ committee when a new legislative session begins in January. Diehl’s office did not comment on whether the Speaker-elect plans to continue the committee next year.
One member of the committee indicated it could serve as a springboard for a broader discussion of ethics reform in 2015.
