Stenger takes oath as eighth St. Louis County executive

Former St. Louis County Councilman Steve Stenger took his oath of office Thursday as the eighth executive in the county courthouse.

The two-term county Democratic councilman was inaugurated after defeating Republican rival Rick Stream in November’s election. Stenger succeeds Charlie Dooley, who served as county executive for about a decade and lost this summer’s Democratic primary race. In an hour-long ceremony, which also saw longtime County Prosecutor Robert McCulloch sworn into office, Stenger called for peace and pledged to leave “no one behind” in moving the county forward.
