Saying President Barack Obama’s decision to normalize trade relations with Cuba will be a boon for Missouri farmers, U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill is planning a trip to the communist country to explore trade possibilities.
McCaskill, a Missouri Democrat, plans to make the trip in January or February. She will work with the Center for Democracy in the Americas, an organization focused on improving U.S. relations with Cuba and other countries, to make arrangements and set up meetings.
McCaskill joins another Missouri Democrat, Gov. Jay Nixon, in expressing interest in trade with Cuba. Nixon last month directed state agriculture director Richard Fordyce to explore the possibility of trade with the country.
