State of the Union expected to address policing, but no Ferguson guests on list

President Barack Obama is expected to touch on community policing initiatives in tonight’s State of the Union address, but his list of special guests for the event does not include any people with direct ties to Ferguson or the death of Michael Brown.

The major theme of Obama’s address is expected to be recovery from the Great Recession and efforts to ensure all Americans share in the fruits of an improved economy.

The President’s push to normalize relations with Cuba — which Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon and Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri have prominently backed — figures to be a major topic.

Obama’s guest list includes a Kansas Citian, Victor Fugate, who used the Affordable Care Act to get health insurance when he was laid off from his job.
