Missouri House Speaker John Diehl, R-Town and County, said this week that his office has instructed lawmakers and committees to take action on transportation, jobs and a proposed National Football League stadium in St. Louis.

Diehl asked legislators to hold a joint hearing of the committees on Government Efficiency and Transportation, which will be tasked with examining the Missouri Department of Transportation’s fiscal needs and exploring a variety of funding options to preserve and expand the state’s road system.

The house speaker also announced plans to improve communication between universities and employers to coordinate curriculum and hiring practices for new graduates.

He also said the House will explore the economic impact of having an NFL teams in St. Louis. The study will include analysis of the economic benefit the NFL brings to the state; the existing and continuing state obligations regarding the Edward Jones Dome; and an analysis of the money the state has paid out versus benefits for taxpayers.
