State GOP elects Hancock as chair, picks Hanaway in straw poll

John Hancock, a St. Louis radio host and political consultant, won an election over the weekend to become the new chairman of the Missouri Republican party.

At the same event, a straw poll of the Missouri GOP’s 68-member executive poll revealed that former Missouri House Speaker Catherine Hanaway is their preferred candidate for governor in 2016. Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker won the group’s straw poll for president in 2016.

Hancock emphasized the importance of Republicans winning Missouri’s gubernatorial election and taking the White House in 2016. He vowed to put the party on stronger financial and organizational ground heading into the election year.
