Highway Commission chair challenges state audit of MoDOT

The chairman of the agency that oversees the Missouri Department of Transportation objected to some of the findings in a recent audit of MoDOT by the Missouri State Auditor’s office.

Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission Chairman Stephen Miller said he thinks the office may have misunderstood some of the realities faced by MoDOT. The 33-page audit, released earlier this month, said MoDOT misspent $7.1 million allocated for the state’s road fund, among other transgressions.

Miller acknowledged that MoDOT has room to improve, but he said the auditor’s office did not understand some of the realities of transportation issues as well as MoDOT does.
