Advocates for health and community care in the St. Louis area gathered Monday to speak out against budget cuts proposed by the Missouri Senate.
The Senate’s proposed budget cuts about $130 million from social support and health programs in the state, reducing funding by 4 percent to 6 percent for programs within the Department of Social Services and the Department of Health and Senior Services. It would reduce health care for Medicaid participants and lessen funds help for abused children and the juvenile justice system.
Speakers at the St. Louis event called for the Missouri Legislature to adopt the House budget, which doesn’t make cuts to those programs. Similar events were held Monday in Springfield and Kansas City.
