Boone County Treasurer Nicole Galloway will become Missouri’s next auditor, Gov. Jay Nixon announced Tuesday. She succeeds former auditor Tom Schweich, the 2016 gubernatorial frontrunner who committed suicide in late February.

Galloway, 32, becomes Missouri’s youngest statewide official. A Democrat, she has served as Boone County treasurer since 2011, when Nixon appointed her to that post. She was re-elected to the position in 2012.

Galloway, a CPA and a graduate of the University of Missouri’s Crosby MBA program, was appointed by Nixon to the Missouri Technology Corp. in 2013 as the secretary-treasurer. In 2014, she joined the board of directors of the Missouri County Treasurers’ Association.
