New Missouri Auditor Nicole Galloway emphasized government accountability, the growing importance of cybersecurity and her duty to serve the citizens of Missouri as she was sworn into office Monday, two weeks after Gov. Jay Nixon appointed her to the position.

Galloway, a Democrat and the former Boone County treasurer, succeeds Republican Tom Schweich, who committed suicide in February.

In her new role, Galloway will run an office with more than 25 times the number of employees of her old post. Tasked with managing a $100 million investment portfolio as Boone County’s treasurer, she now will oversee tasks including the annual statewide “single audit,” which included audits of some $8 billion in federal awards in 2013.
