Nixon signs tip tax bill into law

Gov. Jay Nixon has signed into law a bill that aims to protect businesses from false personal income tax reports by their employees.

SB 336, sponsored by Sen. Will Kraus, R-Lee’s Summit, says employers will only be held responsible for income taxes their employees have claimed. Previously, the Department of Revenue could hold employers accountable for tips employees underreported.

The bill attempts to clarify Missouri tax law to ensure employees, not their employers, are accountable for their personal income tax liabilities.
