Tom Dempsey, who resigned his position as a state Senator Aug. 7, will join Clayton-based lobbying firm Gate Way Group as its director of business development. Dempsey stressed that his new job will not involve lobbying Missouri legislators and will likely concentrate on work in other states.

Gate Way Group’s clients include financier Rex Sinquefield, who has backed numerous conservative candidates and ballot measures in the past. Dempsey voted against the Sinquefield-backed “Right to Work” legislation that came before the Missouri Senate this legislative session.

Dempsey said the job change came from a need to make more money following the closure of the Columns Banquet Center, where he had been the general manager. Though Dempsey previously told the Associated Press he intended to resign his job as vice president of Central Bank of St. Louis, his latest announcement makes no reference to that position’s status.
