Another Missouri lawmaker wants to do away with local earnings tax

A Missouri state representative on Tuesday filed anti-earnings tax legislation mirroring a state senator’s.

Rep. Kirk Mathews, R-Pacific, filed House Bill 1809, which would repeal earnings taxes in St. Louis and Kansas City on Dec. 31, 2017.

This follows a similar bill, Senate Bill 575, filed by Sen. Kurt Schaefer earlier this month. Both lawmakers called the tax unconstitutional.
